Women's volleyball team edges Hillsborough CC in five sets

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team survived a five-set match Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.
Down 2-1 the Titans came storming back to win the match 16-14 in the fifth set against Hillsborough Community College.
Eastern Florida State College got off to a quick start, winning the first set 25-17 as the tri of Diara Gaye, Leyre Arroyo Sanchez and Emma Cook got off to quick starts for the Titans.
Hillsborough Community College went on a run as the match went from a one-point lead for Hillsborough to the Hawks leading 22-16. The Titans tried to get back into the set as they scored three straight points before Hillsborough won the set 25-21.
It looked as if the Titans would win the third set but up 24-20 Hillsborough Community College scored four straight to tie it 24-24. From there the two teams would trade points until the Hawks would score two straight to take it 31-29.
Down 2-1 the Titans responded in the fourth set, taking an early lead but Hillsborough came back and the match was tight throughout and the Titans called timeout down one, 19-18. From there the Titans would score three straight and would score seven of the final nine points to force a fifth set.
Hillsborough CC led 13-11 in the fifth set but Cook came up with a big block and then a Gaye kill tied things 14-14. From there the Titans scored the final two points to clinch the win.
Arroyo Sanchez finished with 19 kills while Jordyn Cox had 15 with Cook and Gaye each finishing with 12 kills. Angelis Figueroa had 22 digs and Sophia Iglesias had 30 assists.
Eastern Florida State College improved to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the Citrus Conference. The Titans will travel to Santa Fe on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. match before returning home Saturday afternoon for a conference match against No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College.
