The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team placed second in the NJCAA Division I Women's Southeast District Championship on Tuesday.
The Titans shot a 309 in the final round at a windy Duran Golf Club. Daytona State College shot a 295 in the final round to win the tournament. Both the Falcons and the Titans have qualified for the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
"Proud of them, they hung on and played hard today," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said.
Jenna Barnett finished tied for third place after shooting a 76 on Tuesday to finish with a 147 in the tournament. After starting with a double bogey, she made a par on nine straight holes. She would birdie 17 to finish with a 76.
"She needed one, she has struggled the last few weeks and a little bit of confidence will go a long way for her. She had a good round 1 and gutted out a 76 today, proud of that," Howell said.
Teammate Mila Tang also shot a 76 on Tuesday with 12 pars and a birdie in the round to finish sixth overall in the tournament. Teammate Ann Burel shot a 79 to finish tied for seventh overall. Emma Parker finished 13th overall, shooting a 78 on Tuesday while teammate Brittany Odic was 18th after shooting an 80.
"This is the most competitive group we have had, the team we had a couple of years ago as far as chemistry and closeness, they were really close and while this team is a close group they are a little bit more talented and can go a little bit lower and I am curious to see how that plays out," Howell said. "I would have liked to see us challenge Daytona a little bit more but the priority was to grab that second spot."
Seminole State College finished third in the tournament, shooting a 306 on Tuesday.
The NJCAA Division I National Tournament will be May 12-15 at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Finney County, Kansas.
