The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team lost a close conference opener Wednesday evening at Titan Field House.
The Titans, who are now 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the Citrus Conference, lost to Hillsborough Community College 62-55.
Eastern Florida State College once again got off to a slow start as Hillsborough came out hitting 3-pointers and held a 12-point lead with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. Grace Strickland hit a 3-pointer and Aniyah Johnson had back-to-back baskets and the Titans trailed by eight after the first quarter.
Angela Mirkovic hit a 3-pointer to tie the game 24-24 with just under three minutes left in the second quarter and the Titans would take its first lead on a Milica Lazarevic basket with 30 seconds left.
The Titans would head to halftime leading 28-27.
Hillsborough would break the tie late in the third quarter with an 8-2 run to finish the quarter and headed to the fourth quarter with a six-point lead.
Bruna DaSilva made it a one-point game, 53-52 with just over a minute left in the game but a huge 3-pointer from the Hawks' Danika Ballard with 38.5 seconds left gave Hillsborough CC a four-point lead.
Mirkovic finished with 14 points while Lazarevic had 13 in the loss.
Ballard and Peyton Flournoy scored 19 points for the Hawks.
Eastern Florida State College will try to get back on track next Wednesday when they will travel to Santa Fe College for a Citrus Conference game at 5 p.m.
