The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will open the regular season this weekend in Jacksonville.
Eastern Florida State College head coach Zack Banks will make his debut for the Titans after replacing MJ Baker who after eight successful seasons moved on to Emporia State University in Kansas. Banks comes to EFSC after helping Northwest Florida State College to two national championships as an assistant coach.
"I am super excited to see this group play," Banks said. "They bring it every day and compete. They are learning a lot of new things that has taken a bit longer than I expected but they come ready to work."
The only player returning from last season is Tamara Elliott who played in 32 games as a freshman averaging 5.6 points, two assists and 1.3 steals per game. Among the new faces are four players who have joined the Titans after spending their freshmen season with another college. Overall, the team has a strong group of sophomores on the team and coach is excited to see his team perform this weekend.
"I really am just looking for clean basketball. I just want to see great spacing, good team chemistry and everything we work on in practice I want us to carry over into the games. I expect it to not be as clean as I want but effort is what I want to see," Banks said.
The Titans will open against USC Salkehatchie on Friday at 10 a.m. The Indians are coming off a rough season but have had a solid preseason and are looking to turn things around.
Eastern Florida State College will then play Chattahoochee Valley Community College on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.
The Titans will be home on Nov. 21 for the opener against South Georgia Tech at 5:30 p.m.
