Softball team's game against FSW in national tournament rescheduled for Thursday morning
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will face No. 1 seed Florida Southwestern on Thursday morning after a rainy day at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Oxford, Alabama
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will try once again to play the NJCAA Division I National Tournament winner's bracket quarterfinals on Thursday morning.
After a day of rain that washed out almost the entire day's schedule, the ninth-seeded Titans will face No. 1 seed and Citrus Conference mates Florida Southwestern for the sixth time this season at 10 a.m. EST at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama. This time for a spot in the quarterfinals.
"Coming off our first national championship win, we are feeling good. We got some swings in today and we feel like we are going in as confident as we have been all year and we are hitting on all our Ps and Qs," Eastern Florida State College softball coach Andrew Zeger said. "We are excited for the opportunity to go and battle with them once again."
Eastern Florida State College advanced to the quarterfinal with a win over No. 8 seed Trinity Valley Community College 2-1. Making their first appearance in the national tournament, the Titans scored twice in the fourth inning and held on behind another strong performance from Avery Velazquez on the mound.
Florida Southwestern picked up their first tournament win on Tuesday, defeating San Jacinto 2-1 to advance in the tournament. Much like the Titans, it was one big hit that proved to be the difference in the first game. For Florida Southwestern it was Megan Veilleux whose single scored two runs in the third inning.
The Bucs are 5-0 this season in the matchup and have won nine straight in the series. The teams are 1-1 in postseason meetings.
The winner will advance to the semifinals of the national tournament while the loser will play again at 2:30 p.m. EST in the double elimination tournament.
