Softball team sweeps St. Petersburg College Saturday
The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a sweep against St. Petersburg College Saturday at Titan Softball Complex, improving to 37-13 overall and 23-11 in the Citrus Conference
The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a sweep against St. Petersburg College Saturday at Titan Softball Complex.
The Titans improved to 37-13 overall and 23-11 in the Citrus Conference with the 8-0 and 8-1 wins.
In Game 1, the Titans shut out St. Petersburg behind Zoey Mills who allowed just six hits over six shutout innings, striking out five.
With Aracelis Jimenez at second after walking and stealing second, Avery Velazquez drove her in with an RBI single. Then Jaelynne Whipple hit her NJCAA-leading 11th triple, scoring Velazquez. Whipple would later score to make it 3-0.
An RBI double by Annalyn Duncan followed by an RBI single by Madison Velazquez mae it 5-0 after two innings. Brooklyn Scott led off the third inning with a triple and scored on Emma George's RBI single.
Avery Velazquez hit an RBI double scoring George who singled in the fifth to make it 7-0 and Jessica Merk ended the game in the sixth with an RBI double.
Avery Velazquez finished 3-for-3 with two RBI while Madison Velazquez and George each had two hits.
In Game 2, the Eastern Florida State College softball team scored eight runs on 14 hits as Jimenez, Whipple and Madison Velazquez each had three hits.
Madison Velazquez got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with an RBI single that scored Avery Velazquez.
They broke open a 1-0 game in the third inning as Jimenez singled, stole second and then scored on Duncan's RBI single to make it 2-0. Avery Velazquez had an RBI double and then Madison Velazquez had an RBI single and the Titans scored four times. They added a run in the fourth when Jimenez singled, stole second and scored on the RBI single from Whipple.
St. Petersburg College scored its lone run of the day in the fifth inning.
Leading 6-1, the Titans would put the game out of reach in the sixth inning. Madison Velazquez hit a double and then scored on Kerissa Howell's triple. Howell would then score on an error.
Isabella Rosales tossed seven innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run, striking out three for the win.
The 11th-ranked Titans will be back at home on Tuesday afternoon for a key Citrus Conference doubleheader against No. 15 Miami Dade College beginning at 1 p.m. Admission to games at Titan Softball Complex is free and fans can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
