Softball team hosts Indian River State College for doubleheader Friday
The 10th-ranked Eastern Florida State College softball team will host No. 9 Indian River State College in a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at the USSSA fields in Viera
The Eastern Florida State College softball team has a big weekend coming up, facing a couple of top 10 opponents in conference doubleheaders.
The Titans come into the weekend ranked 10th in the NJCAA Division I national poll and are 16-6 in the Citrus Conference standings.
On Friday afternoon the Titans will host No. 9 Indian River State College in a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at the USSSA fields in Viera. The River comes into the doubleheader 15-6 in the conference.
Eastern Florida State College is hitting .382 this season as a team which is second in the FCSAA and tied for 10th in the nation. The Titans have scored 329 runs which is also second in the state and 11th in the nation. Aracelis Jimenez is hitting .444 with 22 stolen bases this season as the leadoff hitter while Jaelynne Whipple is hitting .424 with eight triples which is tied for first in the nation. Annalyn Duncan is hitting .402 this season with an FCSAA-leading 59 RBI which is fourth in the nation.
Indian River State College is hitting .351 this season which is fifth in the FCSAA and are second in the state in stolen bases with 169. Jaci Alvey comes into the game hitting .444 with eight triples and 25 stolen bases. Teammate Braylee Shields is hitting .441 with 35 stolen bases and Anaise Piar is leading the team with 37 stolen bases and is hitting .436.
On the mound, the two teams are both in the top four in the FCSAA as the River is third with a 1.91 ERA and the Titans are No. 4 with a 1.98 ERA. Both teams have allowed 65 earned runs this season.
For the Titans, Avery Velazquez is third in the FCSAA in earned run average with a 1.14 while teammate Isabella Rosales has a 1.59 ERA in 14 appearances.
For The River, Emma Eekhoff has a 1.34 ERA in 23 appearances and is 4-1 this season. Eeekhoff has 130 strikeouts in 99 innings. Teammate Marissa Wilkinson is 6-3 with a 1.79 ERA in 23 appearances.
Then on Saturday the Titans will hit the road for a conference doubleheader against No. 3 ranked Florida Southwestern State College. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. in Fort Myers. The Bucs lead the Citrus Conference with a 21-3 record and have won 10 straight games.
Friday's doubleheader at the USSSA Fields in Viera will begin at 1 p.m.
