Softball team sweeps Miami Dade on the road

The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a sweep against No. 13 Miami Dade College on the road Tuesday.

The ninth ranked Titans improved to 12-4 in the conference with the 4-3 and 8-0 wins in Miami.

Jessica Merk hit her fifth home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and Isabella Rosales picked up the win in relief.

Down 1-0 after two innings, Emma George tied the game on a wild pitch. Jaelynne Whipple reached on an error that scored Brooklyn Scott and Aracelis Jimenez.

Miami Dade would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Starting pitcher Zoey Mills allowed two earned runs over four innings and then Rosales came in and dominated for four innings, allowing just three hits.

Madison Velazquez had two hits in the game.

In Game 2 the Titans wasted no time as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Madison Velazquez had an RBI double, then Martha Jones, Emma George and Avery Velazquez each had RBI singles.

It would remain 6-0 until the sixth inning when Merk had an RBI single that scored Kerissa Howell and then George had another RBI single to score Merk.

That was more than enough for Avery Velazquez who allowed just four hits over six shutout innings with six strikeouts.

Martha Jones had four hits and Emma George had three in the win as everybody in the lineup had at least one hit.

Eastern Florida State College will return to Titan Softball Complex for a top 10 matchup with Santa Fe College. The Citrus Conference doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday and admission is free. Fans can also watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
