Softball team cruises to conference sweep on the road

The Eastern Florida State College softball team cruised to a couple of Citrus Conference victories on the road Saturday.

The 10^th ranked Titans defeated St. Petersburg College 13-0 and 12-4 in Clearwater to improve to 10-4 in the conference.

In Game 1, the Titans got on the board in the top of the first inning as Annalyn Duncan hit a two-run single to give them a 2-0 lead. They added another run in the second inning on a Jaelynne Whipple solo home run. It was Whipple's first home run of the season and gave Eastern Florida State College a 3-0 lead.

An RBI single by Emma George in the fourth made it 4-0.

Madison Velazquez hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and then already leading 7-0, the Titans sent 10 players to the plate, scoring six times to finish off the win, 13-0.

Whipple and George each finished with three hits in the game. Zoey Mills picked up the win, her third of the season.

In Game 2, the Titans once again got things going early as Duncan had an RBI double in the top of the first inning.

St. Petersburg College would take the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning but the Titans responded with a two-run home run by Whipple. It was her second of the day and second of the season.

Trailing 4-3, the Titans took the lead in the fifth as Avery Velazquez hit a three-run home run to give the Titans a 6-4 lead.

The Titans would score six times in the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run double by George.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Miami Dade for a conference doubleheader against the Sharks on Tuesday afternoon before returning to Titan Softball Complex for a doubleheader on Thursday against Santa Fe College.
