The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up a pair of Citrus Conference wins over No. 20 Daytona State College on Tuesday.
The Titans, who are ranked No. 10 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, won the first game 8-0 in five innings and then rallied back to win the second game in the bottom of the seventh inning, 2-1.
In the first game, Avery Velazquez got the Titans on the board in a hurry, hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. It was the designated player's fifth home run of the season.
The Titans scored two more runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Madison Velazquez and Jessica Merk.
Up 4-0, Annalyn Duncan came up with two on and two out and blasted her fifth home run of the season to give Eastern Florida State College a 7-0 lead.
Jaelynne Whipple doubled and scored on an Aracelis Jimenez single to end the game in the fifth.
Zoey Mills picked up the win with five shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out two for her second win.
Daytona State College would open the scoring in Game 2 as Aurielle Reavis singled to start the game and scored on an Alexa Edwards RBI single.
Avery Velazquez got the start and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning with her first strikeout of the day. From there the sophomore was dominant, striking out seven on the day and allowed just two more hits for the win in seven innings.
Kaylee Martineau was really good for the Falcons, allowing just four hits through five shutout innings but the Titans struck in the sixth.
Annalyn Duncan led off the inning with a single and after a nice sacrifice bunt by Madison Velazquez, Jessica Merk hit a 2-2 pitch to the wall for an RBI triple to tie the game.
All tied up, Brooklyn Scott led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single and advanced to second on an Aracelis Jimenez sacrifice bunt. Pinch-hitter Brianne Yocum hit a groundball to shortstop and the fielder was called for interference, the throw to first got away and Scott scored the game-winning run.
The sweep gives the Titans an 8-4 record in the conference which is tied for third in the Citrus Conference.
