EFSC softball team hits road for conference doubleheader
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will hit the road for a Citrus Conference doubleheader against Santa Fe on Thursday afternoon
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will hit the road for a Citrus Conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon.
The No. 20 Titans will travel to Santa Fe to face the Saints in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Eastern Florida State College is coming off a doubleheader split with No. 7 Miami Dade to begin the conference season. The Titans come into Thursday 16-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Santa Fe is 10-9 overall but 0-4 in the conference as they look to get on track. The team is hitting .315 this season and is tied for third in home runs in the state with 18. Karris Rhine comes into the doubleheader hitting .434 with six doubles, two triples and four home runs while teammate Tegan Grizzard is hitting .395 and is tied for third in the state in stolen bases with 14.
Eastern Florida State College is hitting .364 as a team this season which is fifth in the FCSAA and are fourth in doubles with 40. Ashley Grieser leads the team hitting .500 in 20 games with six doubles and three triples. Teammate Aracelis Jimenez is hitting .446 while Avery Velazquez is hitting .403 with two home runs and 18 RBI.
On the mound, Velazquez is tied for second in wins with 10 and fourth in strikeouts with 54 this season. The freshman has a 1.03 ERA and also has a save. Teammate Luci Walters has been on a roll in her past three starts, allowing just two runs in the last 19 innings.
The Titans will be back at Titan Softball Complex Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader against No. 19 College of Central Florida. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and you can watch both games on WEFS-TV, channel 9 or 455 on Spectrum, 68 on DirecTV, 30 on Dish and 68 on AT&T Uverse.
