The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team lost for the first time this season at Daytona State College on Sunday night.
The second-ranked Titans lost a tightly-contested game with the seventh-ranked Falcons 3-2.
Sophomore Joao Victor Loureiro opened the scoring with nine minutes and 24 seconds left in the first half. Loureiro took a dribble, settled himself and hit a strike into the corner of the net and it was 1-0 Titans. Goalkeeper Will Blease made a great save punching a shot over the bar to keep the lead but with 2:16 remaining a penalty kick was given to Daytona State College.
The Falcons scored on the penalty kick and Josue Youta scored, tying the game 1-1. It would remain tied into halftime.
The rain really began to fall during halftime and the teams played much of the second half in a pretty hard rain.
Four minutes into the second half Daytona State College took a 2-1 lead and then made it 3-1, scoring on a free kick.
With 11:09 left in the game, Henry Crosthwaite hit a strike that made it 3-2.
The Titans had a couple of really good looks late in the game, but Daytona State College was able to hold on for the win.
Eastern Florida State College fell to 6-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Region 8 Conference while the Falcons are now 6-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Titans will head to Texas for a couple of games next weekend while Daytona State College will host Miami Dade College on Saturday for an 11 a.m. game.
