The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost the Citrus Conference opener to No. 9 ranked Daytona State College on the road Saturday.
The Titans, who are now 11-4 overall, could not come back from a Daytona State run in the first half as the Falcons won the conference opener 96-83.
Eastern Florida State College took a 20-17 lead on a Misael Cruz Rodriguez basket but then did not score again until the 4:28 mark when Sean Register Jr. made a basket and the Titans trailed 31-22. Joviel Acevedo-Arroyo hit a 3-pointer late and then was fouled on another attempt, making two of the three free throws to cut the lead to 41-33 at halftime.
The two teams traded baskets for much of the second half as the Titans could not cut into the lead. Jevon Yapi had a big day off the bench for the Titans hitting three of his four 3-pointers in the second half and finishing with 18 points.
Sean Register Jr. once again led the Titans with his sixth double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 27 points to go with 12 rebounds. Tyson Wilson and Acevedo-Arroyo each finished with 12 points.
Daytona State College had six players score at least 11 points in the game led by Seydina N'Diaye who had 16.
Eastern Florida State College will be back home for a Citrus Conference game on Wednesday against Miami Dade College. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m. at Titan Field House and admission is free. Fans can also watch the game live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
