The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team picked up a win on the first day of the Eastern Florda Classic Monday at Titan Field House.
The Titans used some big 3-pointers in the second half to pull away for the 85-74 victory against Gordon State College. Florida Southwestern defeated East Georgia State College in the first game, 82-66.
The two teams kept things close throughout the first half but a couple of big baskets by Sean Register Jr. gave the Titans a five-point lead and head to halftime with a three-point lead, 47-44.
Christian Burnett got Gordon State College rolling in the second half as they took a five point lead early in the second half as Burnett had five quick points for a 54-49 lead.
Nick Oliver hit the first of his three 3-pointers to cut into the lead and Jevon Yapi's 3-pointer with just under 14 minutes left gave the Titans a 60-58 lead. The Titans would open things up with a 6-0 run and then Djiby Ly hit a 3-pointer as the Titans had a nine-point lead with under nine minutes left.
Register Jr. finished with a double-double, scoring 27 points and grabbing 18 rebounds to lead the Titans while Djiby Ly finished with 10 points.
In the first game, Florida Southwestern used a big first half to defeat East Georgia State College and pick up their ninth win. Kenyon Giles finished with 22 points while Mason Blazer had 20 points and eight rebounds and Lamont Hartfield finished with 14.
The Eastern Florida Classic will wrap up on Tuesday as Florida Southwestern will play Gordon State College at 2 p.m. and then the Titans will play East Georgia State College at 4 p.m. Admission to games at Eastern Florida State College is free and fans can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
