Men's basketball team goes 2-0 at Eastern Florida Classic
The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team came up big in the second half to defeat South Georgia Tech on Saturday at the Eastern Florida Classic
The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team rallied to another victory at the Eastern Florida Classic on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.
The Titans, who improved to 5-1, came back to defeat South Georgia Tech 70-67 in the first of two games. Indian River State College won the second game against South Georgia State College 77-71.
Eastern Florida State College fell behind by double digits halfway through the first half and trailed by nine at halftime, down 38-29.
The Titans came out of the locker room with a lot of energy and started the second half on a 12-1 run, taking the lead on a couple of free throws by Lana Agbelese. After a South Georgia Tech basket, Agbelese hit back-to-back baskets and the Titans led by three. It would remain close throughout and led by two with two minutes left. A good defensive stand led to a shot clock violation and then Agbelese hit a 3-pointer with 1:01 remaining to give them a five-point lead, 65-60.
Nick Oliver hit three of the final four free throws to solidify the win.
Sean Register Jr. finished with his fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Titans. Agbelese finished with a season-high 15 points.
South Georgia Tech lost for the fifth straight time and were led by Jalexs Ewing who had 22 points.
In the second game of the day, Indian River State College again as the duo of Adam Squire and Anthony Ferrer each hit four 3-pointers and hit some big shots down the stretch. Squire finished with 20 points and Ferrer finished with 18 points.
The men's basketball team will travel to Americus, Georgia for a tournament on Nov. 21 and 22. The Titans will face East Georgia State at 6 p.m. on the 21st and then face South Georgia Tech at 3 p.m. on Nov. 22.
