Baseball team beats SCF-Manatee in late-inning thriller
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team won on a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning to win their third straight game on Tuesday night
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team won on a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning to win their third straight game on Tuesday night.
The Titans defeated the State College of Florida-Manatee 10-9 in a wild non-conference game at Bruce Bochy Field.
Chris Carroll led off the bottom of the ninth with a single and then stole second base to get into scoring position. Jackson Wargo hit a 2-1 pitch for a single to left field and Carroll scored the winning run.
Eastern Florida State College scored three times in the bottom of the first inning as Andrew Prieto and Hutson Guinn both hit RBI doubles and then Carroll had an RBI single.
Steele Burd homered for the Manatees to cut the lead to 3-2.
Jacob Miller scored on a Ray Yero groundout to make it 4-2 after two innings. The Titans scored two more runs in the third inning on a two-run home run by Carroll.
But the Manatees would score four times in the top of the fourth inning to tie that game 6-6.
Guinn gave the Titans a 7-6 lead with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
SCF-Manatee tied the game again in the top of the seventh 7-7. But the Titans once again struck back as Ethan Askin had an RBI single and Wargo had an RBI double.
SCF-Manatee's Burd once again came up big, hitting his second home run of the game in the top of the ninth to tie the game 9-9.
That set up Wargo's game-winner.
Guinn and Carroll each had four hits in the win.
Eastern Florida State College will begin a conference series with St. Petersburg College on Thursday. The first game will be at St. Petersburg College beginning at 5 p.m. The series will be at Bruce Bochy Field Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free and fans can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
