Baseball team falls in series opener against SCF-Manatee

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team lost the series opener against the State College of Florida-Manatee Sarasota on Thursday night.
The Titans could not slow down the SCF-Manatee offense once it got started, falling 13-5 at Bruce Bochy Field. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at SCF-Manatee.
Eastern Florida State College got on the board in the bottom of the first when Jackson Wargo led off with a double and scored on Omir Santos' sacrifice fly.
SCF-Manatee tied the game in the third inning when Karson Grout singled and scored on Josh Castellani's double. They would score five times in the fourth inning highlighted by a three-run single by Grout.
Down 7-1, Shane Thomas hit a solo home run over the left field wall. It was the first of two home runs for Thomas who has three home runs.
Down 9-2 in the eighth inning, Wargo and Andrew Prieto both hit singles before Thomas hit his second home run of the day, this one to right field.
SCF-Manatee would scored four times in the top of the ninth inning.
Wargo finished with four hits in the game and was a great leaping catch by third baseman Karson Grout from having five hits. Jake Richardson had two hits for the Titans.
Dominic Woodward had four hits while Castellani had a couple of doubles and a triple as they had 19 hits in the game.
Saturday's doubleheader at SCF-Manatee will begin at 1 p.m.
