Baseball team loses to Palm Beach State College

The Eastern Florida State College baseball team saw its two-game win streak snapped Friday afternoon at Bruce Bochy Field.

The Titans lost to Palm Beach State College 7-4 and head into Saturday's final game of the Southern Conference series at Palm Beach State College tied 1-1.

Eastern Florida State College starter Darien Smith worked himself in and out of trouble in the first two innings, getting the strikeout with runners in scoring position in both innings.

The third inning saw Palm Beach State College score twice but once again Smith came back with the strikeout to end the inning.

The fourth inning was Smith's best of the day, throwing just six pitches in a 1-2-3 inning. But Palm Beach State College would score two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Down 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Titans got on the board as Garrett Evans and Kaeber Rog each scored to make it 7-2.

The Titans left the bases loaded in the eighth inning but rallied in the bottom of the ninth as Nathan Housen had an RBI single and then Connor Leary walked with the bases loaded to make it 7-4.

Palm Beach State's JD Johnstone came in and got the strikeout to end the game.

Rog finished with a pair of doubles and Drew Cavanaugh had a double and a triple for the Titans.

Eastern Florida State College, who is now 2-6 in the conference and 14-19 overall, will travel to Palm Beach State College for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
