Baseball team loses conference opener
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team lost a high-scoring game with Miami Dade Wednesday at Bruce Bochy Field
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team lost a slugfest with Miami Dade College in the Southern Conference season opener on Wednesday night.
Miami Dade hit two grand slams to take the 15-8 win in the first game of the three-game series.
After the Sharks scored twice in the top of the first inning, the Titans scored three times in the bottom of the first as Kaeber Rog hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot and Kyle Dentmon had an RBI single to give the Titans a 3-2 lead.
Miami Dade would score twice in the second and another in the third to take a 5-3 lead. It would remain until the fifth inning when the Sharks would score six times.
Eastern Florida State College would score two more times in the bottom of the fifth inning, but a four-run eighth inning put the game out of reach for Eastern Florida State College.
Nathan Housen hit his second home run and Drew Stubbs hit a solo home run in the game, his first of the season. The Titans finished with 11 hits as Rog, Garrett Evans and Tyler Isenberg each had two hits in the game.
Starting pitcher Darien Smith struggled with his command, taking the loss.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Miami Dade for the final two games of the series. Friday's game will start at 3 p.m. and Tyler Vogel will get the start for the Titans. Game 3 is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday in Miami.
