The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team's historic run ended Saturday night in the championship game.
The Titans struggled to find their shooting touch against No. 2 Gulf Coast State College, losing 81-57 at the College of Central Florida in Ocala.
Mariah Batz left her mark on the tournament hitting four more 3-pointers in the game and finished with 17 3-pointers for the tournament, tying the all-time record. The sophomore from Titusville had nine 3-pointers in the quarterfinals when the team set the individual game record with 16 3-pointers.
Batz and the Titans got off to a quick start, building a 10-2 lead on the two-time defending state tournament champions. But then the Titans went cold and Gulf Coast went on a big 16-0 run to lead 18-10 after the first quarter.
The Titans battled back and headed to the locker room down 12, 36-24. But it was not the Titans night as Gulf Coast won the tournament for the third straight season.
Eastern Florida State College will wait and see if their run in the state tournament was enough to get them a bid in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. The selection show is at 11 a.m. Monday.
