Men's tennis team making first trip to national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team will compete in the NJCAA Division I men's tennis national championship tournament beginning Monday, May 14 in Plano, Texas.

The Titans are making their first appearance in the national championship tournament in just their second year.

"The guys have been working hard, preparing for the national tournament and I think they are ready," Eastern Florida State College men's tennis coach Bobby Cashman said. "Like the women, this will be their first time in the national tournament but I think we have a good chance to do well."

Alwyn Mushonga and Andreas Wejs are the sophomores of the young group and have been a part of the program since the inaugural season. They are joined by a strong freshman class led by Nils Michel and Adriel Azucey.

Michel is ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA men's singles rankings while Azucey is No. 13.

In doubles, the team of Mushonga and Wejs are ranked No. 19 and Michel and Azucey are No. 20.

Overall, the team is No. 8 in the latest Oracle/ITA men's team rankings and has played a tough schedule against NCAA Division I and Division II teams this season to prepare for the tournament.

The national tournament will be held at the Collin County Tennis Facilities from May 14 to 18.
