Basketball teams to showcase skills Wednesday night

The Eastern Florida State College basketball teams are hosting the annual Titan Madness Wednesday evening at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

The event, which is free to the public, begins at 6 p.m. with the introduction of the men's and women's basketball teams.

Emceed by AM-1560 The Fan sports talk radio host Mark Moses, Titan Madness will feature a skills competition, 3-points contest and a slam dunk contest as well as a mixed scrimmage.

Four teams will compete in the skills competition as a member of each basketball team along with a coach make up each team. A player will have to make a shot from inside the paint, at the free throw line and a 3-pointer. Once all three shots have been made, they have to make a half-court shot.

The 3-point contest will feature eight players as Embla Andersson, Jacquelyn Levay, Angeni Worley and Briana Fahy will represent the women's basketball team while Pat Simmonds, Ayo Dada, Ilija Stefanovic and Nate Jack represent the men's team. The winners of each will face off for the title.

Then there will be a 10-minute scrimmage as fans will get a chance to watch the players in a game. The evening will wrap up with the slam dunk contest as men's basketball players Junior Madut, Jalen Warren, Nick Stampley and Osayi Osifo show off their moves.

The women's basketball team opens the regular season Nov. 2 at the Indian River Tip-Off Classic. The men's basketball team will open the season Nov. 2 in the Tallahassee Tip-Off Classic.
